THE NEED  [Top]

This unit helps us to better understand our emotions, especially that of our anger.   We are emotional and social beings and cannot avoid the interdependencies that all of us have .  We are friends, parents, children, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, spouses, and significant others.  Those around us affect us and we affect them.  We also have those we work for, are under the authority of, or have to get along with, and many times there will be friction.  All of us must learn to deal with our own anger. We can get stuck “in a rut” in our reactions to other people that leads to greater and greater anger.  The worst part of this is we don't even use this emotion positively to help us identify what is going wrong and correct it.  Instead, "untreated" anger just gets worse and worse.  We don't know how to make the necessary changes to pull the safety valve and improve our relations with others.  Many times we aren't able to sensibly separate our own responsibilities from that of others.  Another way to put it is: “we don’t know what we don’t know” about what is really going on, and that can hurt us - a lot.

Continual anger eats away at and destroys mostly us.  It ruins every possible type of relationship.  Anger is universal.  We all have it if we have any feelings at all.  We must all deal with it.   From churches to prisons, dealing with anger is the number one choice of topics dealing with the improvement of relationships.

 OUR ANSWER  [Top]

Our anger can be either a positive or a negative force in our life.  Our approach is to demonstrate this and show healthy ways of coping.  We show how people of faith can use their faith and move into the "deeper life" that God wants for them.  For example, people brought up in the church sometimes think that denial of anger is spiritual.  We use scriptures to show the error of this kind of thinking.  We have adopted the Living Free (c) philosophy that the best approach to helping people in need is to intervene with the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the people of God.
  •  The Word of God .  The Bible has much to say about anger - both positive and negative.  Jesus showed anger. "Be angry, and sin not", etc.
  •  The Spirit of God .  Christians believe that the Spirit of God is necessary to lead and guide us into truth.  We need His help!
  •  The People of God .  We are not loners.  We need each other.  The right kind of people around us can help us with our blind spots and help us deal with the isolation that our unresolved anger causes.
Dealing with anger issues like this has a double advantage.  We are helped with our anger issues and we draw closer to our God.

OUR APPROACH  [Top]

All of our units emphasize the rich interaction of the small-group format.   The answers group members need to have will come mostly from each other .  Having group members talk a lot is the fastest way to getting into their hearts and minds.  Once group members level with one another, they help each other in a safe environment.

The structured lessons usually have two leaders called facilitators and co-facilitators.  It is their job to keep the discussion going and on track. The training of these leaders is one of the key activities of Florida Integrity Training.  Our training sessions show the art and science of being effective in this area.  For more information on our training .
