The program is specifically designed to meet the 100-hour prerelease requirements for early-release under the Florida Department of Corrections faith-based alternative initiative.  Leaders are trained as if they will be working in this program in a state prison or jail.   The material is equally applicable for use in re-entry programs, half-way houses, and churches.

To become a FIT Facilitator,  the candidate

  •   Attends One of Our 2-Hr Orientation Sessions
  •   Recieves Specialized Training in One of  Our Six Teaching Areas
  •   Succesfully Co-Facilitates a Group under a Trained Facilitator

Costs and Training

Costs for training sessions are less that list price of the materials supplied due to external funding for this program.  Training materials are available for leaders at a small cost and include such things as a training manual and  facilitator and group-member guides of personal interest.  Materials for prisoners will be provided free-of-charge for our certified people as funds permit.  There is a separate training session to prepare prison workers for each of these topical areas.  To find out when the next training session is being held in your area of Florida, click here or email us.

SIX 100-HOUR TEACHING UNITS  Click on Title for Expanded Information  TOP

  • UNIT 1   PARENTING

This unit is recommended for volunteers who desire the shortest time commitment (4 sessions) and are more comfortable with less interaction between facilitator and group member.  The materials used are the Dad’s Coaching Clinic,
Springfield, MO and Motherhood 101, Lakeland, FL.
  • UNIT 2   PERSONAL INSIGHT (Personal Relationships)

This is the most intense of all six units and has the greatest potential for fast and meaningful growth.  It lasts for 9 sessions and depends heavily on group interaction.  It is based on the assumption that all of us have to deal with addictions of some type (substances, behavioral, or relationships) and that the answer lies in turning to God and removing the hindrances that keep us from doing so.  Persons trained in 2A “Insight” also receive training to lead a 2B “Free to Grow” group.  Materials are available through Living Free/Turning Point,
    Chattanooga, TN.
Free to Grow focuses on ways to let go of the disappointments of the past so that a new future can be opened up.  This is a very important area for all of us, but is of special concern among the incarcerated.  The 12-session format allows a sufficient time period for participants to get to know you and open up and share in lesson material.  It is the longest of the six units.  The lessons are a product of Living Free/Turning Point.

  • UNIT 4 ANGER (Relationships)

This excellent interactive course has the advantage of focusing on a well-recognized problem – anger management.  Since it is so universally-recognized as something that prisoners need, it is a relatively easy one to get discussion going in and provide guidance through the printed materials.  The materials are from Living Free/Turning Point. 9-sessions.
  • UNIT 5 LOSS AND GRIEF (Relationships)

This excellent interactive course has the advantage of focusing on a well-recognized problem – anger management.  Since it is so universally-recognized as something that prisoners need, it is a relatively easy one to get discussion going in and provide guidance through the printed materials.  The materials are from Living Free/Turning Point. 9-sessions.
This 7-session unit was specially written for the needs of persons who need to start over financially.  Habits of indebtedness and poor time and work management have led to destructive patterns which are hard to break.  To ever succeed, however, they must be broken.  This unit was developed for and by Florida Inmate Training, P.O. Box 21411, Bradenton, FL
